Growing up, Jaylen enjoyed participating in both athletics and academics. As a student-athlete at Windsor High School, Jaylen was a three-time all-academic team selection in both football and track, and a high honors student for his entire tenure at Windsor. He was nominated to the National Honor Society as a junior at Windsor; as a senior he was a 2013 CT All-State football selection and graduated with honors with a 3.7 GPA.
As a senior student athlete, Jaylen was recruited by a number of schools, including but not limited to Yale University, Columbia University, and Wesleyan University. At Wesleyan, Jaylen is a member of the football team, a Patricelli Fellow, and a Residential Life house manager.
During his time at Wesleyan, Jaylen realized his desire to support young men and women of color. To become a catalyst for the success of his peers, Jaylen founded the “Jaylen D. Berry Scholarship” in 2016. his scholarship seeks to create social, political, and financial change by supporting young men and women from the state of CT who plan to utilize their education to foster positive change in the world.
In 2017, the Scholarship expanded, becoming the Jaylen D. Berry Foundation. The Foundation seeks to create socio-economic change on a larger scale in the state of CT. In addition to offering annual scholarships, the Foundation will run leadership and community development programs.
Both the scholarship and the foundation stand behind the values of supporting individuals and families on the local level, in order to evolve society.
